Coyote Hunting in New York started October 1 and will go through March 28th, 2010. The dogs wear GPS trackers so that the hunters can locate them and intercept at the point the coyote is going to run out so they can drop fresh dogs, or take a shot to try to wound the coyote so the dogs can catch it and tear it apart while it is still alive. At this point, it is only legal because the average person is simply unaware that it is going on. There is no bag limit, meaning the hunters can kill as many coyotes this way as they wish. It is a horrible way for any living thing to die, and if Pit Bull fighting is cruel and illegal, then this should also be classified as cruel and illegal. If this was done to deer or domestic dogs, or any other living thing, there would be mass public outcry. Coyotes are living, breathing , intelligent animals who play a very important role as a predator. They deserve protection from being killed this way.
If you see pickup trucks with dog boxes such as the ones pictures above, parked along the side of the road, then it is very possible that there are coyote hunters hunting in the area. If your property is nearby, then there is a good chance that they are going to use your property too. The hunters are difficult to catch and they know this because they have often moved to another spot by the time you realize what is going on. The important thing to do is take down all of the license plate numbers and description of the vehicles. If you know they crossed your property, call the State Troopers and file a complaint. The fact that they say their "dogs can't read" or "can't control where they run" is not an excuse. They are trespassing and so are their dogs. They will be back again. Law enforcement officers report that despite that there are far less coyote hunters than there are deer hunters, they get far more complaints on coyote hunters.

POST YOUR LAND AND CALL STATE TROOPERS IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR LAND IS BEING USED BY HUNTERS WHO DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION . YOU HAVE RIGHTS, EVEN IF THE COYOTES HAVE NONE. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR WILDLIFE
Here is some interesting reading on something called Male Diminutive Genitalia Disorder. I think the coyote hunters are suffering from this http://dmgd.org/ Not sure if it is real or not, but sure sounds like its what they have!

this is terrible!! if we apply the same mentality, then Pit Bulls are dangerous too and they are kept in homes etc so we should shoot them too as they "interact more" with humans, dont they? how often do you hear about a coyote dragging a 2 year old kid and then compare that too how often you hear about rottweilers and pitts attacking fully grown humans.
we applaud your efforts, guys!

first of all coyotes are a serious problem as they get more and more interacted with humans so can i ask you a question is it wrong to protect others peoples lives by taking out these creatures that might drag off your two year old little girl. if that's the case i hope you get your dick bitten off by a coyote cause you don't deserve to be a father. plus this is Texas we love to shoot things why not shoot something that's gonna save lives.
*Note from Coyote Institute: We were going to save you the embarrassment of publishing stupid comments from the hunters, but then decided, what the heck, lets let the public see the mentality of the guys out there with the guns and dogs. Another articulate, intelligent comment "Jake"

this about the stupidest thing ive ever seen the coyotes have a fair chance to get away if there so f***ing smart than y dont they go n a hole or something so the dogs cant catch them. yall idiots take pics of the few time a coyote does get killed "which is hardley ever" and make hunters look bad. im a coyote hunter myself and ive done it for 13 years and only a handfull of coyotes have ever been killed by my dogs or anyone i run with. if you got somthing to say about what i think about this give me a call 225-229-2581 or 225-252-8041 yall need to look into it more before yall start accusing us of being cruel or inhumane. you can also email me at pep@eatel.net
*Note from Coyote Institute: We have videos of the often deliberately injured coyotes being pulled out of the holes they are trying to hide in by the hunters, and then shot again and/ or letting the dogs tear them apart. WE have lots and lots of videos and photos we haven't yet put up on the site. We were going to save you the embarrassment of publishing stupid comments from the hunters, but then decided, what the heck, lets let the public see the mentality of the guys out there with the guns and dogs.
