Studies have shown time and time again that killing coyotes does not control their populations, but rather stimulates it. The pelts are not valuable, especially when they have dog bites and bullet holes in them. This is killing for fun and should be illegal.
The coyote is chased to exhaustion by teams of hunters dogs. Sometimes shot and wounded. Often a noose or leash is placed around the coyotes neck to prevent it from escaping and the dogs are encouraged and allowed to finish it off. This can take as much as 45 minutes or more of torture. The hunters encourage their dogs to be savage. they laugh and make jokes about the coyotes predicament. Should these people be allowed near ANY wildlife with this lust for torture and killing?
Still alive, this coyote is dragged to entice the dogs to bite it more
No animal should have to die this way. This is OUR wildlife, not just theirs to do with it as they see fit. Anyone that treats an animal this cruelly should not be allowed in society.
The next step will often be for the hunter to put a noose around the coyotes neck, drag it out and hold if for the dogs to chew up and kill. Also notice that this coyote has been shot and wounded- most likely deliberately. To do this is not normal dog behavior, but learned behavior from the dogs owners/ trainers
This wounded coyote ran into a plaza in Rochester, New York while being chased by the hunters and their dogs. Notice the placement of the injuries- front leg and back leg, as is a consistency in most photos. After being surrounded by media and curious onlookers, it was then dragged with a catch pole, loaded into the hunters truck with his dogs, then taken to a wooded area to be finished off. This all under the control of the DEC Officers in New York
This coyote pup is used as live bait for these hunting dogs in training. Does it look like they are mixing some pitbull in with the hounds?
Most people are completely unaware that this is how coyote hunting with dogs is done.
The hunter looks on and snaps lots of photos of the torture to show his hunting buddies. How else do you think we got these pictures?
This is not ethical hunting.
This is just before the dogs are released to maul it to death
This is how the dogs are trained to kill wildlife. What would these dogs do if a domestic cat or small dog crossed their path?
A "cable restraint" is put to use to train these dogs . Often fox are used to train the young dogs, who then graduate to coyotes
The hunters like to shoot them just to maim, not kill them so the torture can continue. This would never be allowed in deer hunting or any other "sport"- not by ethical hunters. These guys give all hunters a big black eye.
This coyote was run to exhauastion by relays of dogs, let out at intervals so they are fresh. Then, the hunter shot it in the front legs to cripple it so the dogs could attack it and chew it up. It is a slow, violent agonizing death. The hunters have snapped the photos, and are usually laughing (LOL!) and bragging about the coyotes predicament
Coyote hunters use snared coyotes to train their hunting dogs while they are caught in the snare and struggling. The more the coyote struggles, the tighter the snare gets. There is currently a bill to legalize them in New York State, (no) thanks to an uninformed assemblywoman
Relays of teams of fresh dogs are used to run the coyote to exhaustion. Since a coyote can't climb a tree to escape such as a raccoon or bear, they can run for many hours and miles, crossing highways, private posted property and sometimes ending up in plazas, school yards, front yards. One recent hunt depicted the coyote as having been chased for 7 hours.
